Erving School Union #28, located in scenic western Massachusetts, includes 4 schools serving the 5 towns of Erving, Leverett, New Salem, Shutesbury and Wendell.

Grades Pre-K through 6, totaling 520 students.

The Union has an overall annual budget of $ 12,400,000.

Applicant must have or be eligible for Superintendent certification in Massachusetts
Salary Range – $135,000 - $155,000

 ERVING ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Is accepting applications for the following positions for the 2023-2024 school year:

      

 

7D VAN DRIVER
Part Time Position
$22.00 per hour

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma/GED required
  • Valid Massachusetts 7D Pupil Transport certificate
  • Valid Massachusetts Driver’s License
  • Thorough knowledge of Massachusetts transportation laws
  • Proven experience and skill in the operation of a passenger school van
  • Considerable knowledge of the operation of basic automotive equipment
  • Clean/excellent driving record
  • Knowledge of roads and surrounding areas
  • Reliable
  • Strong communication skills
  • Has knowledge or skills to work with special education students
  • Employment based on successful completion of background checks

Responsibilities:

  • Safely transports students to and from school on scheduled routes
  • Follows a prescribed route to pick up and drop off to and from school
  • Ensures the safety and comfort of students during their commute
  • Maintains a clean and orderly bus interior
  • Keeps vehicle clean at all times
  • Responsible to check and add fluids, fuel, air
  • Inspects the van to ensure that all necessary safety equipment (i.e. flares, fire extinguishers, first aid kit) is present
  • Keeps vehicle free of snow and ice during inclement weather
  • Properly fasten and secure as required by Massachusetts state law
  • Follows all traffic laws and town/district policies to ensure a safe journey
  • Builds positive relationships with students, caregivers and school staff
  • Notifies the proper authority (Town and Student Support Services Director) in the case of mechanical failure/tardiness
  • Performs daily pre-trip inspections as required by Massachusetts state law
  • Operates warning lights for student pick up, discharge and operates hazard lights at railroad crossings
  • Operates a two-way radio properly
  • Reports malfunctions or suspected malfunctions in writing to Town
  • Reports any/all accidents and completes required reports
  • CPR and first aid certification required
  • Reads and follows instructions from written material
  • Attends in-service and training as required
  • Checks inside of van after each route and at the end of the day
  • Keeps updated routes on the van
  • Coordinates substitute drivers as necessary
  • If no students need to be transported on a regularly scheduled school day, the driver will be paid for 3 hours.

 

The Town shall adhere to federal law and Department of Transportation regulations requiring a drug and alcohol-testing program for school bus/van drivers.   Such testing will be conducted for five different situations:  pre-employment, randomly, following an accident, following an authorization to return to duty and upon reasonable suspicion that a driver is under the influence of alcohol or using drugs.

Rates are as follows:

Teacher: $120/day ($110 on Wednesday)

Para-Educator: $100/day ($90 on Wednesday)

Nurse/RN: $175/day ($155.00 on Wednesday)
Nurse/LPN:  $125/day ($105 on Wednesday)
